I rarely publicly voice my political and religious views, but tonight I heard about an episode of “Curb Your Enthusiasm” that I found horrifically offensive, and I just have to comment. In this episode, the character that is played by Larry David urinates upon a picture of the Savior, then mocks others for believing that a miracle has occurred and that the portrait is crying.
I don’t understand how anyone can think this is funny.
All religious perspectives aside, how would you feel if it was a picture of your mother? Or your spouse? What if someone was in your house and urinated upon the artwork your children did at school. Funny? Absolutely not.
In response to the uproar that HBO has heard regarding this episode, they issued the following statement: “Anyone who follows Curb Your Enthusiasm knows that the show
is full of parody and satire. Larry David makes fun of everyone, most
especially himself. The humor is always playful and certainly never
malicious.” When was the last time he mocked Muslims? Jews? Blacks? The President?
I admit that I don’t watch the show in the first place, but what would the reaction be if he had chosen to urinate on some other symbol? The Torah? The Koran? A picture of Obama? Of the New York Yankees?
I urge anyone who reads this to cancel your subscription to HBO, and to send them a letter stating that you have canceled because of the morally abject and offensive content of their productions.
Then turn off your TV and read a book, go for a walk, meet your neighbors, or volunteer your extra time towards a worthy cause.

Larry David Blasted for ‘Curb’ Episode Where He Urinates on Jesus Painting – FOXNews.com
As a graduate from a Christian college, with 2 additional years in Bible college, and 20 years in Christian fundamentalist-type churches I can say that I didn’t find that episode of Curb offensive.
It wasn’t mocking…the picture of Jesus was hung above the toilet and, being on medication that caused excessive/erratic urination Larry splashed from up from the toilet by accident…which led to one single drop that looked like a tear…
While they would have never played it during chapel, it wasn’t sacrilegious…nor meant to be.
I ended up on your site because I’m looking into Sandvox…
Take care.
I am saddened to hear that after such an apparently strong religious education and background, you are not bothered by such a desecration of a portrayal of your Savior.
“When was the last time he mocked Muslims? Jews? Blacks? The President?” He’s mocked all of the above, several times.

You are ridiculous. There is no reason to get all worked up about something so insignificant. If you don’t like it, don’t watch it. You can’t honestly expect anyone to go cancel their HBO subscriptions because of one thing in a show you haven’t even seen. Ray is dead on and in no way is Curb Your Enthusiasm targeting only Christianity, it mocks all kinds of people. Maybe you should watch the show and understand the premise before you go bashing on it, crazy.
Then turn off your TV and read a book, go for a walk, meet your neighbors, or volunteer your extra time towards a worthy cause rather than wasting your time complaining about something you can’t do anything about.
In response to your specific points:
All worked up? Writing this post only took a few minutes…. and I don’t feel that I was all that worked up to do it.
I don’t watch the show, and I know of a few people who have cancelled their HBO subscriptions because of this show.
I don’t care if it mocks everything – in fact, if it does truly mock everything, that’s all the more reason not to watch it and to let HBO know you are unhappy by cancelling your subscription.
As to whether I’m wasting my time: Clearly I don’t feel this is a waste of my time, but rather I see it as a worthy cause – precisely because I *can* do something about it by voicing my opinion in a public forum such as this.
While I appreciate your view, I prefer to take a more pro-active approach to offensive items such as this, rather than the “meh” approach you suggest.
Have a great week!
He insulted muslims and palestinians in the palestinian chicken episode
Larry David had insulted practically everyone possible on this show and on mutliple occassions. Do you know what it says for your credibility when you presume the only people he’s offended are Christians? Coming from a big fan of Curb that gave me a good laugh. You didn’t even care to watch the episode in question and thus you couldn’t offer the context of the offending scene, which when left out (and based on your description) distorts David’s intentions as being malicious when in fact they clearly weren’t.
Lighten up. It’s a TV show. Freedom of expression exists. People can put what they want on the air and the rest of us are free to find it funny, and all the same you have the right to find it unfunny. To advise viewers of the show to cancel their subscriptions is probably the most ludicrous thing you said. You think I’m going to cancel a subscription and “send HBO a message” because some devout Christian on the internet told me he was offended? You’re ridiculous. You’re the kind of person that gives religious people a bad name.
