I still receive email about this post from angry/upset/frustrated customers and former customers of Clear. By all accounts, they are still not a good choice for internet service at all.

I can't speak to any of the local setups in CA, but since I wrote this post I've been relatively satisfied with Qwest (Now CenturyLink) - their service is mostly reliable, they let me have a real static IP for only $5 / month over the base price of the service, and they offer fast speeds. I'm currently on a 20Mb Down / 5Mb up plan, and have no plans to change for the time being.

I am interested in current (i.e., October 2011) comments on Clear Internet from you as a techie. As in, has this service been upgraded to eliminate some/all of the (many)0 complaints registered on-line since its entry into the market?

I am a wholly, totally disgusted/disgruntled/angry Comcast customer. However, I don't want to jump out of the proverbial frying pan into the fire simply be switching to another major corporate rip-off. I currently live in San Francisco's East Bay, but will be moving back to southern California within the next year. I would appreciate any comments you have to make regarding the present status of Clear Internet's performance/service.

Thank you,
Sandy Maroney

Just read your post on Clear service, which I have...major problems with! I've been using them since this past December, and I'll tell ya, it worked like a dream! Well, up until alomst two months ago...then it just plain snow-balled, with Clear giving me excuses like oh, well now it's summer and trees have bloomed and that's causeing the issue. I have Clear hooked directly into my xbox 360, as always, but then started getting all sorts of odd errors,DNS servers and MTU settings being the most prevelant. The Clear modem/router won't allow you to change MTU settings but they advise changing the RTS setting to get the same effect. No dice! Then Clear tells me to buy a seperate wifi router so I can change the MTU settings on that...now I think i'm getting "double NAT" PLEASE PLEASE any help you can offer would be great!
