Bug Lightning

by admin on July 2nd, 2009

Lightning has always fascinated me.  I don’t know if it is because of the threat of death to those who are too close, or the raw power it carries – but lightning transfixes me.

Tonight I captured a timelapse of the sunset from our office construction cam, and I noticed that after it was completely dark, the camera was doing a fantastic job of picking up the streaks of light bugs leave as they fly under the street lamp.

Here is a single example:

This, like lightning fascinated me, so I took a few more quick shots:

bugs1

bugs8

bugs6

Then I layered them all together and blended them in photoshop to produce a single shot that shows the combined flight paths of all the bugs in all the shots:

And there you have it:  Bug Lightning
