New Family Room Shelves

Those of you who know me personally know that I like to think I’m pretty handy with power tools.

Ok, so mostly I take big pieces of wood and make them into smaller pieces of wood.

I’ve built lots of stuff around the house – storage shelves in the garage, a workbench, some invisible shelves, a mantle for our fireplace in our old house, some coat hooks, etc.

Usually most of the stuff I build violates the fire code and distributes splinters to anyone who comes with 10 feet.

Occasionally, though, some of my projects actually turn out to be pretty nice (I think).

I recently completed some new bookshelves in our family room.  They are built into 2 recesses near our fireplace and master bedroom door.  I went with a parabolic curve on the outer edge, and purposely left a gap at the end of the shelves so that when I get around to feeling like I need to be electrocuted I can install some lights over them that will shine down behind.
